On Saturday, November 2, the traditional Balkan Gala took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, bringing together the most successful athletes, coaches, and officials of Balkan athletics. Distinguished speakers included the President of European Athletics, Dobromir Karamarinov, the President of Balkan Athletics, Slobodan Branković, Bulgaria’s Minister of Sport, Georgi Glushkov, and the President of the Bulgarian Athletics Federation, Ivan Kolev. They each highlighted the importance of this year’s achievements and the ongoing development of athletics in the region.
The ceremony recognized the best Balkan athletes of the year. Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece was named the Best Male Athlete of the Balkans, while Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine was honored as the Best Female Athlete of the Balkans.
Awards were also presented to the Rising Stars, celebrating the region’s outstanding young talents. Angelina Topić from Serbia was recognized as the Women’s Rising Star, while Aldin Ćatović, also from Serbia, proudly received the Men’s Rising Star award.
This gala evening was a remarkable gathering of those who have contributed to the success of Balkan athletics, celebrating achievements and laying the foundation for future triumphs.
