Balkan Indoor Championships held in Belgrade 2026

The Balkan Athletics Indoor Championships for seniors were held today at the Banjica Athletics Hall in Belgrade, gathering around 300 athletes from 21 Balkan Athletics member nations. The competition was officially opened by Balkan Athletics President, Slobodan Branković and European Athletics President, Dobromir Karamarinov, who attended the event as a special guest.

Serbia delivered a strong overall performance, winning a total of seven medals. Gold medals were secured by Armin Sinančević in the shot put (20.59 m) and Ivana Španović in the triple jump (14.07 m). Ćatović and Rajić also highlighted the championships with new Serbian U20 national indoor records in their respective events, underlining the great potential of Serbian athletics.

The championships also featured several outstanding performances from international athletes. Armenia’s Gor Hovakimyan won the men’s triple jump with a personal best of 16.66 m. Montenegro’s Marija Vuković claimed the women’s high jump title with 1.89 m. Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Saraboyukov again triumphed in the long jump with 8.42 m ahead of Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.14 m).

In the 60 m sprint, Bulgaria’s Hristo Iliev took victory in 6.53, while Austria’s Isabel Posch won the women’s race in 7.29. Armenia’s Yervand Mkrtchyan captured the men’s 1500 m title in 3:42.29, and Greece’s Ioulianna Roussou won the women’s 1500 m in 4:20.96.

The Balkan Indoor Championships once again confirmed Belgrade’s role as a major regional athletics hub, highlighted by excellent organization, strong Serbian results, and top-level performances from across the Balkans.
